Excessive Drinking

Question
I just took over the care of an adopted SPCA dog.  Last night all she did was drink, drink, drink.  When her own water was gone she started to drink water out of the toilet.  I couldn't get her to stop to I had to finally close the bathroom door.  Can you tell me what could be causing this?

1. lack of fresh water.. don't you know toilets (according to dogs) has the BEST water in the world! always cool and fresh!

2. the start of kidney problems

3. dehydration

4. diabetes.


have the dog tested. remember to only let small bowls of water to be drunk at a time. dogs tend to drink drink drink then eat food and bloat.
