Bleeding from his rectum

Question
I have a 12 year old yorkie that bleeds from his rectum constantly. It started about a year ago and has progressed to the point where he is now dropping clots. When he does his do, he bears down so hard and so long that he pushes his rectum totally out. I took him to the Vet who sutured him up but that was a temporary fix. Now when he does it, I put on a glove and apply some pressure to his rectum and it goes back in.  I have taken him to several vets who don't seem to know what the problem is or how to solve it. He has had several rectal exams. One vet thought he MIGHT have felt something however he is not sure. One even told us he had cancer and that he would die soon. That was a year ago. His demeanor is fine. He runs and plays with his ball and other toys and appears to be a happy little dog. Today I came home to a mess, blood and do was everywhere. Please help. Is it time to put my Casey to sleep?

Answer
Hello Cheryl:   Casey still has a good quality of life???  Let's try a few nutritional/supplement alternatives.

First, give Casey some Canned Pumpkin every day - at least 2-3 teaspoons in the morning.  You can put this on top of his food.
You need to do this every day.  It will add some good fiber to his diet.

Next, I want you to put him on a new dog food.  Give him Natural Balance ( puppy to adult formula ) .... Mix the old food and the new food together.  Do this for one month and then go 100% Natural Balance.

Last, Buy some NuVET Plus - this supplement will aide in his digestion and help his immune system.

I believe your boy has a prolapsed rectal area.  Loss of muscle function related to old age and also a diet that was LOW in fiber.
( I don't blame you , no one told you)

Here is the info to buy the NuVET...
Get back to me in a month and let me know how he is doing:

Thanks and Good Luck -
