My female cats UTI

Question
Yesterday the Vet gave me a bottle of penicillin to treat my cat w. twice a day - she was dianosed w. a UTI.  But what I have noticed is blood coming from her vagina - as the vet noticed this also.  Is this the usual symptom of a urinary tract infection?  It seems odd - I thought the blood would be in the urine.  Thank you in advance for answering my question - I'm not sure she is being treated for the right illness!

Answer
Well if she has a bad UTI she could have blood in her urine but it could also be irritating the vagina too. Did he check her for bladder stones? Stones are the number one cause of bleeding like that unless they have a sticker in the vestibule, which is also possible.
Stones are very irritating and even just fine gritty ones can cause bleeding since they are like crystals and can cut the lining of the bladder and vagina.
If she is bleeding a lot I would take her in for xrays. If it is a small amount give the antibiotic a few days and see how she does.
I sure hope you meant that he sent you home with ampicillin in a bottle to give subcutaneously.
Penicillin is best left to horses and cows.
Let me know how she is in a few days.
