Loose bloody stool in pomeranian

Question
My pomeranian is less than 2 yrs. old and is having a loose, bloody stool with some mucus present. She also had a more normal looking stool very shortly before. I took her to the vet 2 weeks ago and she was said to have some sort of a mild intestinal tract infection and was on steroids and amoxicillin. She is still eating and drinking normally from what I can see. She has also been vomiting a clear, somewhat foamy substance at times. She eats Purina One dry food and 1/2 of a Beneful container dinner at night. Should we be worried?

Answer
Well usually mucous in the stool is an indication of a malabsorption problem. I would stay the course of the meds you have then see if she isn't better by then. If she is having a problem with colitis then you might want to talk to the vet about getting her on some W/D which is perfect for that. It is formulated with a good amount of fiber which is very beneficial in colitis. Purina One is not the best choice for a dog with this problem and I don't know what a container of Beneful would be- is that a wet food?
If you want to help clear up the stool you can add some boiled rice to her food for a few days and see if that helps too.
If she still is bad after the meds are gone then do a trail with the W/D and see if that helps.
It is made by Hills but is a prescription diet. We have always had great results with it. That is all my dog has eaten for 10 yrs and she is in great shape.
Let me know how it goes.
