I hope you can help me.  I have been trying to get in touch with my vet, but have not been able to.  I have a 6 1/2 wk old boxer.  I took him on Friday to have his first checkup.  I was told that he has round worm, tape worm, and coccidia.  The vet gave 2 types of wormers there in the office and Albon 5% Suspension for the coccidia that was sent home to continue.  He acted fine before and after the visit.  However, Saturday he was very sleepy all day and would not eat -- but would drink water.  Now it is Sunday and he still will not eat and will not drink water either.  I do not know what to do.  Like I said, I cannot get my vet - or any of the vets in the clinic to answer their phones or return my messages.  Please help me!

Sincerely,
Booker's Mom (Laura)
Answer -
thats because they want you to make an appointment, not get free advice on the phone because their licenses are on the line for not seeing the pet initially.

either go to an ER for pets -they will see you or make an appt with a new vet.

good luck!

thank you for getting back to me so quickly.  That is the problem -- i live in a relatively small town with NO pet ER's.  And I have tried to get in contact with all the vets we have -- but it is the weekend and noone will answer.  Is there not any other advice you can give?

Answer
sounds like you are going to have to force feed your puppy.

go ahead and see if he will eat wet dog food, human baby food (gerber brand plain turkey is the best, and make sure you are getting water into him. Even plain childrens pedialyte can help.

coccidia is very nasty and can cause diarrhea to the point these little guys can dehydrate.
