My dog chewing herself

Question
Since I moved to Arkansas, my dog incessently chews her back, near her tail and pulls her hair out.  She seems to have some sort of chafing build up in the area she began chewing on.  Someone told me changing her diet would keep her from this....but don't know what to change it to.  Your advice?

Answer
Hi Denise!I really doubt that making a move to Arkansas would incite a food allergy. More likely, she is allergic to something in the environment. When skin disease affects the rump and back, I tend to think of a flea allergy first. You should have a vet look at her to see if there is some medical treatment that will give her some relief. Please keep me posted!  Nicole.D.
