dog with larvae

Question
I have heard of a dog that was bitten by some sort of insect and at the same time implanted with an egg.  The egg turned into a larvae and was growing in the skin of the dog.  Have you heard of this condition and what is it called?

Answer
Hi Betsy!
This would be known as the Bott Fly.  This is a worm that burrows into the skin of animals to lay it's eggs.  The larvae look like maggots and each one them needs to be extracted from the dog's body and skin to prevent a total infestation.
I hope this helps.
