Snorting in my dog

Question
My 6 1/2 yr old jack russell was diagnosed with pit. cushings in August. She is being treated with trilostane and is doing well.  A few months ago she started "snorting".  Mostly it happens when she's excited if you're offering her a treat and she's anxious to get it.  Now it seems to happen more often.  If she's just lying around, or sleeping.  It almost sounds like she can't catch her breath and when she inhales she makes this snorting sound.  Should I be concerned?  Is this a sign of respiratory problems.  She doesn't do it when running or exercising.

Thank you.

Answer
Yes, this could be a true respiratory problem.  I would recommend nasal films and chest x-rays to see if there is anything wrong.  Otherwise, a trial of anti-histamines may help or she may need to be placed on antibiotics as dogs with Cushings Disease are more prone to infections.
