QuestionLeslie, My 15 mo. old male cat has had loose to liquid stools since he was neutered (About a year)
My vet has tried steroid injections, restricted diet (I/D dry), and occasionally a series of Lozipan (sp?). Nothing works. Aside from this, he is perfectly healthy? No tests have been done. Do you have any suggestions? Should I seek out a diagnostician? Pat
AnswerIf he has not had any deworming for awhile, I would recommend a 5-day course of Panacur just to be safe. I would also recommend that he have some blood tests done to make sure that there isn't something else wrong...CBC, Chem Screen with Electrolytes, TLI to check pancreas and B12/Folate level to check for bacterial overgrowth and maldigestion. And if nothing shows, go for an ultrasound.
In the mean time, I would highly recommend that you feed an all-natural high quality diet that is void of dyes, by-products, preservatives and corn. I feed my cat with inflammatory bowel Prairie Lamb & Rice and he does pretty good on it www.naturesvariety.com
I would also recommend adding digestive enzymes into his diet. I use Dancing Paws Shake'N'Zyme which also has probiotics in it www.dancingpaws.com
GOOD LUCK!
