Question
I have a 2 year old female Siberian Husky that I love very much.  For 3 weeks she has been vomitting some of her food & water.  I took her to the vet after about 4 or 5 days and she was put on medication.  The vomitting continued and I took her back to the vet. $338 later, after bloodwork and x-rays, she was diagnosed with a disease that effects her esophagus.  The food will sit in her esophagus and cause her to vomit.  Her behavior has not changed and she doesn't seem "sick" at all.  The vet said she is not in pain but it is life threatening if she gets Pneumonia.  The vet also told me that the only treatment available is to elevate her food bowls.  Is this really the ONLY treatment?  I thought about getting a second opinion, but I can't afford another $338 vet bill.  I am more than willing to spare no expense on medication, treatment or surgery if it will be successful 100%.  But I don't know how I feel about putting my dog through the whole process again and pay $338 or more for someone else to tell me the same thing.  Do you have any advice or recommendations for me?  Or worse, what's going to happen to my dog?!

Answer
Hi there.

your dog has whats called MEGAESOPHAGEOUS.  Raising the food bowls so she is not bending over makes a HUGE difference to these animals.

as far as I know, there is no knows surgery for this problem yet.

you can get a second opinion if you want or ask for a referal for internal medicine for you dog.

good luck!
