Question
I have an 8 month old German Shepherd/chow mix.  On a
walk, in the beginning, middle or end, she suddenlys tops, lays on her
back with her feet up and reused to walk.  I try to get her going and she
scratches and bites me.  She finally gets up after 10 mor more minutes.  I
bring treats to coax her and this doesn't help.  There is no particular
place she stops and lays down.
She also does this in the house whens he doesn't want to do something like
go into her crate.
I am afriad to walk her myself as I have come back scratched and
frustrated.  She weighs 55 pounds and is hard to pick up.  Help please.
When she wants to, she obeys sit, lay down and come but in this instance
she ignores everything.

Answer
I would recommend walking her with a GENTLE LEADER and also enrolling her in obedience classes.  You should be the ALPHA and it is clear in this situation your dog is the alpha.  You have to be firm with her and put her in her place.  IGNORE this behavior and she will learn that she's not gonna get her way.  Walk away from her.  If you make a big fuss when she does this, you inadvertently rewarded the behavior because she got the attention she wanted.  Praise and Reward the good behavior, when she is calm and relaxed.  Make her work for things...make her sit before she gets fed, before she goes outside, before you give her any treats or toys.
