Cat has foul breath

Question
Hi,
Our 5 yr old cat's breath has been unusually foul lately. We adopted her from a shelter almost a year ago and she didn't have this problem before. We've tried adding the dental additive to her water but it hasn't seem to improve.
What could be the problem and what other steps you suggest we take.
Thank you very much.

Answer
Sincere apologies for the delayed response.

I would suggest having your cat in to your veterinarian for a dental
exam.  It is possible that the foul breath could be a sign of dental disease. Their teeth much like ours can get cavities and in worse cases become infected and require removal.

While the dental additive can be a good preventative measure there may already be a problem present that needs to be addressed more aggressively.

I hope this helps.
