Question
hi..
i have a 5 year old toy poodle..about a year  ago my kids left a chocolate easter egg in the backyard..i caught the dog eating it..she had eaten most of it..about half an hour later the dog could not walk wet herself and was kind of going stiff.we rushed her to the vet and they pumped her stomach.ever since everynow and again she will have that same episode . wetting herself, cant walk etc.
should i be concerned?what should i do?will she have this problem forever?should i go back to the vet?
please help  i feel so sorry for her when shes going through this
thanks for your time
sam.

Answer
Usually the effects of something like this don't last past the one episode. I would think that there was some kind of neurological damage possible from the theobromine, which is what makes chocolate toxic. However, again, there is usually no lasting effects from it.

I would get her into the vet and have a workup done on her. She sounds like she is having some other issues not related to the chocolate eating. She might even have bladder stones which are causing her some discomfort and the incontinence.

The best place to start is at the vets. Please let me know what you find out.
