Cat cyst

Question
My Siamese cat has a dermal cyst. When I took him to the vet for his shots, I was told that the location, on his shoulder, indicated that it might be a malignant cancer. She said that in some cats, getting a rabies shot can cause cancer. This cyst looks like a small white mole sitting on the skin, about the size of a tick. We're having it off on Friday. Can you tell me more about this particular type of cancer, and what, if anything, we might do to prevent further problems? He is 7 years old and a fine-looking, fit, affectionate cat, who also has problems with periodontal disease.

Also, is there a name for this on which I can research the Net?

Answer
Without a pathologists report identifying the tumor, I cannot tell you anything.  Many skin tumors of the cat's skin are malignant, but that does not mean that the cat will die.  It just means that it is rapidly growing.  Some malignancies can spread to other organs.  That is why it is important for the pathologist to look at the tumor and detemine it's type and potential for malignacy.
