Eye Infection

Question
My dog Toby has an eye infection which is shut and mucous keeps coming out of it. I took him to the vet and he said his eye was too sore and could not do anything for him. He referred me to the eye specialist. I called them and they cannot see Toby until Monday. Mind you today is Wednesday. That is five days away and I don't know what to do. I feel so bad for him. My dog is usually happy and loves to play. All he is doing now is sleeping all day. He doesn't eat and occasionally drinks water. Please help.

Answer
Are you serious? A vet actually told you that? Too sore or damaged? There is a big difference. What if this dog has a foxtail, a sticker in his eye?

I can't believe a vet would just blow this off. I would see another regular vet tomorrow. There has to be more than one where you live. I live in a small mountain town and we have 12 vets here.

Your dog needs to be seen tomorrow. He could lose his eye if he doesn't get some help right away.

Call another vet, make an appointment. He is in a lot of pain which is why he won't eat and is sleeping. Eye injuries are extremely painful. I cannot tell you to do anything because it will just cause him more pain. The vet will numb his eye before he does anything to it.

Don't hesitate Ana, call a new vet tomorrow.
