Yeast infection in Black Lab ear

Question
Our 8 year old black lab has suffered from yeast infections on and off since we got her as a puppy.  we have tried several treatments recommended by our vet and the infections keep recurring.  Please help.

Answer
Labs are very commonly affected by allergies. If it started when the dog was a young puppy, it makes me think of a food allergy that may be the problem.  Yeasts in the ears are almost always secondary to allergies.  So if your vet has not treated the dog for allergies, then have that done.  Also a food trial with a hypoallergenic diet for 2-3 months will tell you if the food is the culprit.  YOur vet will be able to explain how to do this and to provide the right type of food.
