Head shaking and scratching ears

Question
I've had Suzie's ears checked today and there does not seem to be an infection but she was up all last night shaking her head and scratching. I did have some Ottomax from an infection she had last year and put a little on the upper part of the ear and it seemed to help. The ears look very red to me tonight, is there anything I can use to soothe them. Could it be an allergy? We are trying to solve another problem right now with blood and mucus in the stool, could there be any connection? Thank you for your time! Suzie is a 6yr. old 6lb. long-hair chihauhau.

Answer
Otomasx contains a very potend steroid called Betamethasone.  That will soothe the ears if the inflammation and itchiness is allergy related.  Ask your vet if that is OK to use with the medications for the mucus and blood in the stool, which sometimes can be caused by a food allergy.
