Dog Eating

Question
My 11 month old mixed small breed dog has developed destructive eating habits. She ate part of a CD, a box of matches, and the knobs off of a controller. Should I take her to the vet, or are these things relatively harmless?

Answer
Hi Lisa!  I would take her to your veterinarian.  The reason being, is that I would be concerned of an intestinal blockage or obstruction due to the volume of the foreign objects she has ingested.  The one thing I would be most concerned about would be the CD.  This has sharp edges and can cause internal damage.  Your veterinarian will perform an X-ray to locate these pieces and to assure that there will be no harm done during the digestion process.  Calling your veterinarian as soon as possible to enlighten him about this situation would be most beneficial, as if there is a problem, the sooner you address your veterinarian, the sooner the problem can be solved.
Until you can reach your veterinarian, feeding your dog bulky things like breads and mashed potatoes may help coat the sharp ends of the cd's and make the digestion a bit smoother.
I hope this helps and please keep me posted as to how your dog does.
