Question
Is it ok to give my golden retriever a pain pill containing 110mg acetaminophen and 162mg aspirin? If I can give this to him should I gave him 2 pills? He is 12 years old and about 50-60lbs. He has recently had a hard time getting up and seems to be in pain. He does respond to a treat but does not want to get up to get it. I tried pinching his toes and got no reaction so I figure his pain level must be more than that pinch. He is also losing his hair  from the tip of his tail to just in from of his rear hips with scab type skin itching him. I have tried special shampoos and of the shelf medications to no avail. I unfortunately can no longer afford a vet but will do my best to sooth him as much as possible. Thank you and God Bless.

Answer
Do not give anything with acetaminophen to a dog. There are so many great medicxations to give older dogs with joint problems.  One simple, cheap thing is to give Omega 3 fatty acids, which are availavble at any health food store or vet.

As far as the skin, the area and the lesions you describe are typical of a flea allergy.
