Special diet c/d cat food

I was given two cats on Sunday and was told that one of them was prescribed special diet c/d cat food because she developed a bacteria infection from regular cat food. I was wanting to know if she will always have to have this special cat food (that can only be purchased from a vet) or if this is a temporary thing like other prescriptions.

C/d is NOT for bacteria. its for urinary crystals.  And yes, the normally have to remain on the food for most of their lives if they are prone to bladder stones.

the correct thing to do is, take them to the vet every 6 months for a u/a to keep on top of this.
