Question
We are having our Welsh Terrier spayed.  I have been told not to let them use Halothane.  What other anesthetics are used for small animals?  I think the vet clinic told me they use Isofl??
, sorry I can't remember the name.

Answer
Halothane is an older gas anesthetic and the animals take longer to recover from it--I would not think too many veterinarians would still use it, but you should ask your vet and request it not be used if you are concerned.  The most common gas anesthetic is Isoflorane and the newer one is called Sevoflo.

Most often the pet is given a sedative injection first to relax them and then they are intubated and maintained on the gas anesthesia during the procedure.
