Distemper shot reactions

Question
Can cats have violent reactions to distemper shots?  My cat is 5 years old and has had distemper shots in the past with no reaction, however, it has been a few years since his last shot and I fear there could be a problem.  Thanks.

Answer
Typically they will be a bit sleepy and may spike a fever.  If he has not had any reactions in the past, I would not suspect that this year would be any different.  You can give him oral Benadryl prior to the appointment but I would suggest that you call your veterinarian for advice and doseage.  Or ask your veterinarian to give an injection of benadry or steroid prior to his distemper shot. Otherwise you could have blood testing done to check titers to see if he needs a booster.
