Foul Smelling Kitten

QUESTION: I just adopted a 10 week old female kitten (not spayed).  I noticed she had very bad breath (fishy) and her feces smelled badly.  I have a 1 yr old male cat and he never smelled like that.  She was adopted from a nice home, but I do know her diet consisted of cheap wet food and some cheap kibble.  I switched her to a high quality dry food and have not given her any wet food, hoping this would solve the "scent" problem. I bathed her initially when we first got her. It has been almost a month she's been with us.  Her body/breath/feces odor has not changed. She was lactating, so I started her in a milk replacement formula to supplement (and to bond).. should i stop the formula to see if that is what is keeping her stinky?  I don't want to traumatize her, but she smells really foul and what is worse is that since she is playing (bitting and licking) my other cat all day long, he smells too -(it is just transfer from her :) She is too young to have any dental disease, plus her teeth look healthy.  She doesn't seem to have any disease in her skin or otherwise as she is a very active, regular happy kitten.. I imagine her foul smell has to be diet related.  Any advice would be great.  I am hesitant to change her food again, but I am not opposed to it if it helped.

ANSWER: Hi Dally - I bet this little one has a Yeast overgrowth - we can fix this with a little help -
Glad you are feeding a good quality food - Wet cat food is fine if it is added ontop of the dry - I like WEllness, Solid Gold, Innova, Eagle Pack, and Natural Balance-
Wet cat food will help so they don't get stones in the kidney.

As for the formula, I would do this for a few more days and then lay off of it...
YOUR boy may have the yeast bacteria now, too.  It is no big deal and with some NuVET feline - it will go away - I would put him on a full dosage of the NuVET for at least a month.

QUESTION: Thank you! Yes I knew something was wrong with her digestive system.  It makes sense.  I have been feeding her Nutro Kitten Formula, do you think I should change to Wellness?

I will order the NuVet for her and for my male cat.  I have one more question, is this yeast overgrowth contagious to humans?  The kitties spend a lot of time in our bed and we spend a lot of time in their play room. I don't mean to sound ignorant, I just want to be careful.

No - it is the good bacteria taking over in the cat's body.

I don't think you humans will get this... it is from a low immune system and sometimes diet related.
