Harness bad for dog?

Question
We welcomed our first dog "Sooner" into our hearts and home six months ago, she is a wire terrier mix about 8-1/2 pounds.  We use a harness to walk her and we have been told by another dog owner that the harness can harm or damage their kidneys. My questions is, can it or will it? Should we be using the harness or a collar to walk her, she can be very determined at times and I don't like pulling on the collar. Thank you for helping us to clear up this confusion. Kathy

Answer
A harness will NOT do any harm to or damage her kidneys.  I do not know where this other dog owner heard that, but s/he should check the source!  Harnesses in many cases are better than collars because they do not put pressure on the throat (windpipe) which can be problematic for small dogs.
