Death of a Cat & Longevity

Question
What is the longevity of the Siamese Cat.  I thought my baby would live 20 years, he was pampered, loved, stroked, slept with me, never went outside, never had any ticks, mites, or fleas.  He just shut down, like his kidneys failed or something.  He died last Sunday and we are stunned. He was 15.6 years of age and male.  We never saw it coming, it happened very fast, His demise was very fast, a real shock.  His body had a bad odor when I would put my nose into his fur the last 2-3 weeks, but being ignorant, I never made the connection. Apparently he was dying and we never knew it.  Found him on the floor, put him on the bed, stroked him and talked, but he never responded.  I guess I need some answers here & the longevity of Siamese.  He left a sister behind and she whimpers in her sleep (didn't know cats could whimper).  I go to her and comfort her the best I can.  Will his death hasten her death?  They were inseparable.    Thank you for your reply.  I am totally heart-broken here, please reply.

Answer
Dear Dee,I am so sorry about your loved pet.God rest his soul.

Healthy Siamese cats can live over 20 years. But in the later years, their health is often compromized by bad dental disease leading to kidney failure. Cats will not show any sign of disease until it isoften too late to treat. That may be the odor you were smelling. As far as the other cat, I would have her undergo a good physical and blood tests now to see if she has any silent medical problems. Hope this helps!Nicole.D.
