leg cramp in my cat?

Question
i hve a 4 year old female cat, she is spayed, needled etc.. indoor(mostly) does go out to do her "duty". about 2 weeks ago, all of the sudden, her left leg will bother her, it would make her jump, then it settles down and she licks the leg as she is licking it, it could hit her again nd she jumps. At first i thought that she may have fleas but she doesnt seem to itch herself in any other spo than the left leg, but the way she acts its as if something bit her. She is like our child and this really worries me. Oh and after these episods, it seems to really tire her out. Thank ou in advance for your help.  Trish

Answer
Well this is something a vet would have to evaluate. It is pretty hard to say what could be causing this. One thing could be some nerve pain or pain in her knee. Cats can get a nerve pain that is called neuritis and it is very painful. It can run down the leg (like from the sciatic nerve) or go across the back, which makes them twitch and run around.
What you are describing sounds like the same type of pain. They will lick the area to try to relieve the pain.
Your vet can give her a look over and then an injection for the pain. Don't give her anything at home as it could be toxic.
She needs to be seen. I wish I could tell you more.
Let me know what you find out.
