Question
tonight I noticed blood coming from my dog when she went to the bathroom.  What should I do or watch for?

Answer
Hi Glorianne!  Blood in the stool can be a sign of an intestinal parasite in which a simple fecal test can decifer which it is and your veterinarian can prescribe a dewormer that will kill the parasite.
On the other hand, blood in the stool is also caused by eating "rough" substances like wood, tiny stones, ect.  It can also be caused by a food change, people food that the dog has never ingested before, or even treats.
If your dog is acting normally and is eating/drinking, behaving as usual, it probably is one of the above.  If your dog is not eating or drinking, is lethargic or straining to defecate, this could be a more serious problem and veterinary care would be needed ASAP.  I definately would suggest a vet visit just to be sure that there are no intestinal parasites present, as these will only keep reproducing and causing problems if not treated.
I hope this has been helpful and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
Sending kisses to your baby,
Hilary
