Question
Hi Jennifer!I have written to you yesterday about my two dogs,Bear and Taz.

I have another few questions,so here they are!

1.What kind of dog shampoo do you recommend?

2.Where can I purchase it (I live in Canada,Windsor Ontario)?

3.What is the price?(Or your estimation of the price?)

4.Today my mom and I bought a dog shampoo at the Dollar store.I was wondering if you would still recommend using it because it is from the Dollar Store?

Since my dog,Taz, has seizures and I was told not to let him come in contact with any flea medication,do you know of any other alternative for flea medication.Any home remedies would be great!

Answer
What kind of dog shampoo do you recommend?

I would recommend going to your vet for shampoo recommendation since s/he knows your pets' skin the best.  I do not know what brand names you have in Canada, but here in the US we use a lot of HYLT by DVM Pharmaceuticals for routine bathing and it is a GREAT shampoo.  I even use it on my cats.

What is the price?(Or your estimation of the price?)

Our sells for about $8 for an 8 oz bottle and more for medicated shampoos.  Hylyt is not a prescription shampoo and I am sure you could purchase it online as well.

I wouldn't use it on my pet.  You get what you pay for.  Usually cheap shampoos aren't as good quality--don't lather and clean as well--and are really watered down.  I have tried the cheap stuff on my own hair and it feels like straw after it is washed.

We have a lot of patients with seizures and they still do fine with Advantage or Frontline applied to them.  I do not tell clients to stop using these products if their pet has seizures.  Home remedies really do not work that well for fleas.  Some people will feed brewers yeast and garlic to their dogs.
