moving with my cat

Question
I have a 16 year old cat, she is in good health and is still active and playful.  I am pregnant and moving into an apartment a few miles from where we live now. She is an indoor cat. She will be leaving behind 2 cats that she spends time with but not a whole lot. How can I make the move comfortable for her and how do I get her comfortable in her new surroundings?

Answer
BEFORE THE MOVE- check all areas of the new apartment to make sure there are no holes or dangerous areas you would not want your cat crawling into.

*Keep your cat confined in a comfortable area (*NOT HER CARRIER*) where you currently reside with food, water and a litter box while you pack. Once you get to your new apartment put her in confined comfortable area while you unpack. Do not release her from her "safe area" until all the doors and windows are closed, so she can't escape. Take time to help your cat become used to the new house.

*Use the same food and water bowls, bedding, litter box and toys, and put them in a location similar to where they used to be.

*Maintain your cat's regular schedule in the days after the move.

I hope the cats she is leaving behind have a good living situation...
