Question
I have a dearly beloved 16 yr old cat who has gingivitis or stomatitis. I cannot afford a vet atthistime. He has had all the tests needed for this condition, and all tests came up negative. He has had it since age 7. I feed him canned Fancy Feast. He doesn't eat dry food or play much because play means pain. Isthere a human vitamin gelcap that would help the pain ( i can squeeze the innards out). I give him infant aspirin every three days for arthritis pain. What can I give Binky for a home treatment? I'll try any range of remedies. Thank you!.

Answer
Sincere apologies for the delayed response.

As I am sure that you know from dealing with this disease for so long, plaque buildup is important to keep at a minimum so daily brushing and treatment with a clorhexidine rinse would be helpful if not already being done.  Omega fatty acids can possibly decrease inflammation and be obtainable at a local health food supply or pharmacy.

It may not be financially feasible, or you may not desire due to his age, however one of the best things to be done for a cat with this condition is removal of most of the teeth behind the canines.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance and again apologies for the delay.
