Urination Problems

Question
Recently, my cat had been peeing places where he shouldn't and I took him to the Vet.  Here he was diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection.  He was given pills and we finished them and followed the directions on when to give them etc.  Lately, he is still peeing around the house but the Vet had said that if anything went wrong, it would be with him NOT being able to pee, and if this happened to bring him back.  She did mention some other tests if the urinary tract test came back negative.  What else could be wrong with him, and what are the chances he could die?  I am very worried about his health and don't want to spend alot of money unless I know what the true cause is.  I have thrown away alot of money to the vet for tests etc. that always come back negative.  This is another resort for me.  PLEASE HELP!
Jennifer

Answer
Hi Jennifer.  If your kitty is eating and drinking, I definately would not be concerned with death being a possibility.  It does sound as though he is suffering from a Urinary Tract Infection.  Usually Clavamox is the antibiotic given to treat this infection, although that sometimes isn't strong enough.  I would definatly recommend an antibiotic called Baytril.  This antibiotic is very heavy duty and will knock out a stubborn infection.  He may also be urinating around the house because he is still getting the scent of where he has urinated before.  Nature's Miracle pet stain and odor remover really helps in getting the cat urine smell out.  A Urinary Tract Infection is the number one reason a cat will urinate outside the litter box and his symptoms seem as though they are exactly showing that.  I would try a stronger antibiotic and see how that works.  Please let me know how he does, and I will be sending get well kisses his way!  I wish I could be of more help.  Hang in there,
Hilary
