Dog Pee Killing all plants

Question
I have  a german shepard mix, recently we have taken in a lab mix for a couple months for a friend. One dog pees on a plant, then the other one, over and over again. I tried to wash the plants off, but they have killed 2 bushes and are working on all my flowers. I have tried over the counter sprays for keeping them off, I can't put wire fences around all of my plants, any help? I feel like my yard is being killed off one by one! What can I do?

Answer
Hi Tanda!  The only thing I can suggest is to take the dogs out on a leash and not let them near bushes or plants.  If they try to pull in that direction, tell them "no!".  Hopefully they will get the hint eventually!  Dog urine is very high in acid, so it will kill plants.  If the dogs aren't neutered/spayed, they will mark their territory and will constantly urinate like this.  Getting them fixed would help tremendously.  Neutering a male will also reduce his chance of getting penile/prostate/testicular cancers by 99%, and spaying a female will reduce her chance of mammary/uteran cancers by 98%.  It will also eliminate the chances of her developing a deadly uteran infection called a Pyometra.
I hope this information has been helpful and I hope your plants and flowers bounce back!
