Question
We had our dog tested for allergies.  He is extrememly allergic to flea bites, rice, and cat hair.  he is constantly getting eye infection and red skin area and digging.  We have been doing steroids with relief, but hate to continue all the time.  What OTC meds, herbs, or solutions would help in not getting flare ups?  He is 14 months old.  Thanks, We do have a cat, and hate to get rid of either, as far as flea stuff, we treat every month, and he gets no rice in any foods.

Answer
While I have never heard of a dog being allergic to rice it is possible. You need to make sure he is on a novel diet such as potato and duck or venison or lamb.
I do not know what is out there in the world of herbal medicine or OTC solutions, so that is something you could look up on Google.
Basically the only treatments I am aware of are allergy injections, dietary changes that are permanant with no treats that are of the allergic type.
You must be careful with herbs because most dogs that are allergic to these things will also be allergic greenery, trees and shrubs.
You would be better off talking to an allergist specialist that treats canines.
Good luck to you all.
