Question
Dr. Gotthelf,
I have 5 beautiful bullmasitffs that never have had skin problems until we moved to GA. within a month of arriving the all have developed a mystery rash..I had the vet scrape them but it showed nothing, I requested Ivermectin just to be sure it wasnt a scabie issue as we live in a farming community with swine and goats also near by..It has been two weeks and they all just had there second shot of ivermectin and still no improvement..They were all placed on Keflex as a preventive..I have been bathing them bi wkly anternating medicated with aloe.None of them is getting any better..I now have one who's pads are splitting and the rest all have reddness between there toes..They are all Itchy and miserable..WHat can I do..what am I missing..Is it in the air?? its not Dietary I am sure because there hasnt been a change,They are all on 3Vcaps for ever and all take Biotin..WHat would you do?? These are show/breed bullies and I sure wouldnt do either with the way they look right now..Also I dont know if I am imaging it but I feel things crawling on me but cant see anything..I know I m not crazy..No fleas have been spotted and they are all on treatment anyway..PLEASE HELP

Answer
I would agree that if all 5 dogs are exhibiting the same thing, then there has to be something common to all of them.  There are many types of insects that can cause these lesions.  Certain fungal diseases can cause this type of lesion.  Can you isolate these dogs indoors for a while?

The University of Georgia in Athens has a terrific vet school with an excellent dermatology department, if your vet can't offer some relief.  There are other veterinary dermatologists I know in the Atlanta area if that is closer.
