Question
hi. im a new registered cat breeder of ragdolls. when i first
started i wasn,t told of HCM testing. i have read a few articles but seem to be confused as some reviews say this is a must and others say its new. i want the best for my breed stock and to be a responsible breeder. i understand how important the HCM test is but are my pets being used as guineapigs. does the vet do the test and if they are negitive would he give me a certificate. if the parents are negative why does a kitten need to be tested. please help. thankyou.

Answer
Since we don't do that type of testing I am not that much up on it. Here is a site that will answer your questions.

I don't understand the guinea pig question in light of what you are asking me. First of all, it is your responsibility as a breeder to have these cats tested before you breed so you don't pass this on in your line. I commend you for doing so. But to ask if they are being used a guinea pigs doesn't make sense to me.

Since the testing is done with cheek swab or blood work that you send in, I fail to see how they are guinea pigs.
I do not know about getting any certificates, but surely if both cats pass then you can show that to prospective buyers of your kittens.

You should read this whole page. It will tell you what to do with a breeding program.

I do not know what you can do about a certificate. I would talk to your vet about that.
