Litter Issue

Question
Hi have a kitten who is 8 mths old now.

Ever since I picked her up she's had an issue going in the litter tray. I have tried everything...even spoken to the vet. My conclusion is she's too smart for her own good and it's a behaviour/attention seeking issue.

I've used odor equalisers, change the type of litter, excessive cleaning, leaving a bit of her own stuff in there so she knows...putting her into the tray while she's scratching or just after an accident. Nothing works?

Answer
I would recommend getting CAT ATTRACT www.preciouscat.com and try that.  Also, you should have ONE MORE litter box than the number of cats in the house...so if she is the only cat, you still need 2 boxes.   Make sure her food dishes are not close to the litter boxes and that you are not cleaning the boxes with any chemicals--use hot water and soap as some chemicals react with the ammonia in the urine and put off unpleasant gases.

You can place food dishes in the areas she is soiling or citrus, aluminum foil or plastic runners with the pointy side up as this often discourages repeat trips to that area.

If she is not spayed, have her spayed as inappropriate urination can also be linked to heat behavior.

I would have a urine sample and fecal sample checked just to rule out any infection or parasites, respectively.

Another thing I often use in these situations is FELIWAY/COMFORT ZONE.
