Swollen Toe

Question
This morning I noticed my cocker (2yrs) had a slight limp when I let her out this morning.I looked closly at her leg and found nothing wrong. She then trotted back into the house like nothing had happened. When my husband got home she was not putting any weight on it. She is being very passive.  After looking at her again we found that one of her Toes is swollen.  Her skin is very red compared to the other foot.  She yelps if you touch it and her toe is hard when you touch it.  What do you think is wrong and is there anything to give her for the pain.

Thank you,
Sara

Answer
Hi Sara!  I would definately recommend a vet visit, as she may have stepped on something, something could be caught in her paw pad, there could be an infection, ect.  Swollen and redness are definate signs of infection and injury.  Your veterinarian may need to prescribe an antibiotic and pain reliever for her.  NEVER give her any human pain relievers (advil, tylenol, asprin, ect.) as they are deadly.
Taking her to the vet for proper treatment would be the best for her.
Please let me know how she does and give her tons of get well kisses for me!
