Question
just found a dime size wound on my cats mid section on his back; has to be about 2 to 4 days old; small amount of drainage from wound and sore looking in appearance, doesn't bother Skiddar except is aggravating him. Have already cleaned with mild soap and water; should I clean with something else and what kind of ointment can I apply to the wound for healing? Thank You in advance!!! elizabeth

Answer
Just keeping a superficial skin wound clean will help it heal.  You probably do not need to use a topical antibiotic ointment.  Cats rarely get superficial infections.  They get abscesses under their skin from deep punctures.  If that is the case, then oral antibiotics work best.
