Underskin spreaded air bubbles in cats

Question
My cat has had two operations recently. One was for neutering and the other one was intestinal block. The two of them happened in three weeks' time. On the second day after she had the second operation the vet noticed my cat got air bubbles under her skin. They are everywhere onthe head, under her arms and around the whole body. Are they dangerous? What might cause them? What can we do for treatment. We are so concerned about this. We need your help. Could you please answer that. Thanks much.

Answer
This is a subcutaneous emphysema and it is only treatable by the vet. It can be dangerous so please get her back in to see the vet as soon as you can.
This can be from many causes, one being sutures in the skin that are not done properly and then air seeps in under the skin layers. Sometimes it is from a leak in the lung, but that is unlikely in her case. Sometimes it is from the tracheal tube used during surgery, or the abdominal incision leaking air.

I only know of treatment at a vet hospital, I don't know anything you can do at home for it. Sometimes it resolves itself if it is just one small area, but for a large area like this a vet should be treating it.

here are some articles on it:
