Question
My indoor cat has slowly pulled out his hair by the root on the back of his neck. He has a raw bleeding bare spot the size of a silver dollar.   It happened a few months before on the soft spots between his eyes & his ears, both sides. Is it safe to put Benedryl cream or Neosporin on it?   What causes this?  I assumed it is an allergic reaction to food.

Answer
The Neosporin is a decent option to use on the wound, as it can help fight off secondary infection.  Allergies are one possible explanation, though there is also the possibility of parasites or metabolic diseases such as hyperthyroidism causing this type of symptom.  It would be best to take him in to your veterinarian for an examination and bloodwork to make sure that there isn't an underlying disease that is showing itself a the hair problem.

Best of luck to you and your feline friend.
