MY PUPPY LEAKS WHILE SLEEPING

QUESTION: WE HAVE A LITTLE YORKIE WHICH WE HAD SINCE SHE WAS 9 WEEKS OLD, SHE IS NOW 7 MONTHS OLD.  AFTER WE HAD HER FOR A FEW WEEKS I NOTICED EVERY NOW AND THEN SHE WOULD PEE IN HER SLEEP, I TOOK HER TO THE VET, THEY DID A URINE TEST AND SAID IT LOOKED LIKE SHE MIGHT HAVE A SLIGHT UTI, WE GAVE HER THE MEDS AND SHE SEEMED TO GET BETTER, AND NOW A FEW MONTHS LATER I NOTICED THAT SOMETIMES SHE IS LEAKING AGAIN WHILE SHE IS SLEEPING.  I HAVE READ THAT SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS AFTER THEY GET SPAYED, WE DID HAVE HER SPAYED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. BUT SHE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN SHE WAS JUST A FEW WEEKS OLD AND IT DID GO AWAY AFTER SHE WAS GIVEN MEDS, BUT NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK NOW THAT ITS BACK.  SHE IS FINE OTHER THEN THAT, SHE EATS, PLAYS, ETC. WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS COULD BE????  PLEASE HELP, THANKS, SUE

ANSWER: Hello Sue - Yes, it could be another UTI or it could be a hormone problem and she will need a drug called DES. You will need to bring her to the vet and see what he/she says...

QUESTION: THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUICK ANSWER, I WAS JUST WONDERING IF IT COULD BE A HORMONE PROBLEM AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE, SHE WILL ONLY BE 7 MONTHS OLD 8/15/08.ALSO IF IT IS A HORMONE PROBLEM, IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE LEAKING TO STOP FOR 2/3 MONTHS AND START UP AGAIN? IS DRUG DES IS EXPENSIVE??? I AM TAKING HER TO THE VET ON MY NEXT DAY OFF, WHICH ISN'T UNTIL NEXT WEEK SO I WOULD LIKE TO GET AS MUCH INFO AS I CAN BEFORE I GO. I AM REALLY HOPING ITS JUST A UTI..  THANKS AGAIN, SUE

ANSWER: yes, after they get spayed many have troubles with hormones... The DES is for this kind of leakage.  I don't know how much it costs...
