Question
I found a kitten yesterday or so I think it is, its small so I guess it it but basically there's not a owner and I've asked everyone in the neighborhood if they own or have a cat/kitten and they've all said no. So here's a list of questions I would like to know.

1.What to feed the kitten/ when?
2.There are tiny little black spots that looks like dirt but they're everywhere but I'm not sure, please tell me what they are?
3. I've heard you can wash kittens with Dawn, is that true?

If theres any other information please tell me! Thank you

Answer
The dirt is most likely flea manure. The poor thing is probably covered with fleas. Dawn is safe but you must dilute it down a LOT for a young kitten.

Use warm water and gently pour the water over the kitten with your hand and soft rag. Rinse her very well with clear warm water.

Do Not feed her ANY milk, even Purina Kitten Chow, which is coated with milk.
That will give her terrible diarrhea.

Get her some Science Diet Kitten Growth and start by giving her some small amounts mixed in with a tiny bit of water if she is really tiny, or just dry if she looks about six weeks old. They have plenty of teeth to chew with by then and this food is super high quality and is easy for little kittens to eat.

At this point let her eat as much as she can but stop her if her tummy gets too rounded.

She will need to be seen by a vet very soon as she will probably be full of round worms and most likely a tape worm since she had fleas. he can also test her for FIV, FELV, and FIP- all very important- and vaccinate her against them.

Get some IGR flea spray as well and wet a rag with it and wipe her down with the damp rag, after her bath. An IGR is an insect growth regulator and will kill the adult fleas but also make the eggs not hatch and the larval stages not molt into adults as well.

If you do these things in a timely matter you will have yourself a very healthy kitty on her way!!
