chihuahua terrier mix

I have a close personal friend who has the above mixed small dog. He has always been very hyper, but recently has bit my mom, snapped at his owner and myself. I think he must be about 14. It almost seems like he is in pain, as I rubbed his shoulder, then he went for my hand. His owner is about 84 years of age, and I'm afraid to have to break it to her that he may really be ill. I am not sure what your question is here. Old dogs do get aches and pains and this small breeds are prone to be snappy anyway, so if he is in pain he might become very snappy.

Instead of telling the owner something that might not be true, why don't you offer to help them both go to the vet so the little dog can have a check up and find out why it's being snappy to everyone? I am sure she would appreciate the help.
