Cat with eosinophilic granuloma

Question
Hi- I have 2 cats, both 14 years old and having the normal (I suppose) problems that come about with advanced age. One cat was diagnosed with eosinophilic granuloma 2 years ago. She presented with the traditional rodent ulcer and puss patches on her side. It was horrible. I took her to the vet and he prescribed prednisone and Clavamox. I read quite a bit about EGC online and decided to take her to a specialist. He prescribed cyclosporine, hydroxyzine and necromil sodium (sp?) and topical Elidel. She recovered from the ulcers/plaques and I weaned her off the medications- which made her anti-social and lethargic. From a diet perspective, we've switched from high-quality product to product (Wellness, Innova, Felidae). And all result in some type of dermal manifestations. She scratches near her ears and grooms excessively on her sides and legs. I am just not getting the support I need to help her...I think that she can be managed with diet and not just throw drugs at her. Should I try a novel protein? A hypoallergenic product with hydrolyzed protein (she wont touch the Hills X/D). DHA/EPA omega-3 supplementation? I am so lost on this. Thanks!

Answer
Hello Stacey - I see you have tried Wellness and Innova in the past.  Would you want to try Innova again?  Innova is excellent and almost no fillers at all.

Also, I can offer some ideas for supplements and oils.  I would refer you to the following :
Let me know how it all works for you and your cat kids....

Turmeric ( herb)
***sprinkle some turmeric in her food daily (about a quarter of a teaspoon) as this is a natural anti-inflammatory.

"The Importance of a Healthy Immune System The key to self-healing is a strong defense system, which protects dogs and cats from everything from the flu germs to cancer cells.  More than their mainstream counterparts, holistic veterinarians believe that a weak immune system plays a key role in causing disease."

I refer many of my clients to NuVET Plus - this is the BEST Immune System Booster for a Healthy Immune system... A must for any cat or dog that has illness and weakness.

NuVET Feline formula is a must for both your cat kids...

Vitamin E - ( you can give 1 to each cat each day)
get the 50 IU dosage of Vit E... break the capsule open with a pin.  Punch a hole and squeeze out the inside gel...Mix it into food.
Do this every day... it is good for them.
