Blocked nostril

Question
My 13 year old female cockapoo has a blocked nostril. It's almost completely blocked off with a muddy looking substance, and she's constantly sneezing. We tried to take a warm rag and a q-tip to it but it wouldn't loosen up. We haven't had her vaccinations for maybe like 3 years because we just haven't had the money (I know it's terrible). I just thought I would ask you what you thought before we took her to the vet, because like I said we don't have a lot of money to spare.

Thank you for your time
Katie

Answer
Well there are many things this could be, so I am only speculating. At her age, it could very well be a neoplasia (cancer)way up inside of the nostril.
You didn't say how long she has been this way, but it sounds like a while. If it was sudden or over the last few days I would say that she could have a sticker up her nose.

However, she could also have old-dog distemper, but they have more symptoms than just a clogged up nostril.

You really won't know until your vet looks at her. Don't wait too long however, to take her in.
