Question
Hi, I have a rabbit that I just recently bought, and before I bought him I was informed that he would be just a breeding buck (which was fine) because he had broken a leg before I purchased him. I didn't think anything of it and now 6 months later, the same thing is happening to his other leg. The first one to break or fracture is crooked, and he is not longer using the leg. He has also developed a infection around his genitals and I've been putting Neosporin on it twice daily. I did call my vet and this is what he told me to do, but I wanted to know if there was something else I could do for his pain and to clear up this infection. I was afraid the infection might Colibacillosis, as some of the pictures I've seen on the Internet look almost exactly like his rear end. I wanted a second opinion on what I should do with him. Hopefully you can help me.
Thank
Chelsea

Answer
Poor bunny. Sounds like he had poor diet or has a hormonal imbalance that is preventing him from absorbing the minerals he needs. Whomever sold him to you should be contacted.

The very best thing you can do for this bunny, if you are willing, is to have a telephone consult with a veterinarian who specializes in small critter husbandry and homeopathy and holistic approaches - Dr. Doug Yearout, in WA, 425-334-8171
