Dog Saftey

I have a Lab, well part.  And we have been hit witha terrible Ice storm here in Wichita KS.  My question is will my dog be alright in my basement.  There are like 640000 people without power and I am one of them.  I have given him food and water, but there is no light in the basement and I know it is cold. What harm will it do for him to be alone in the cold dark basement. I go home and let him out and let him run , but then I have to go to a shelter which doesn't accept pets.

if its too cold for you its too cold for your dog. and im sure its darn unpleasent. WHY the basement and not the rest of the house?

give him LOTS of blankets and make sure he has lots of water that is insulated so it does not freeze and make sure he is well fed.
