Mixed Lab has little bumps on top of her head

Question
Our mixed lab has been very, very itchy and as of two days now, she has little bumps all over her head.  I can see it from the hairs and when touched, they feel like mosquito bites.  I did have her groomed three days ago and I changed her food also three days ago.  Her behavior is also more mellow and seems uninterested.  We adopted her a couple of months ago and she used to go on hikes, we don't live anywhere close to a hike and I fear she's also depressed because she's not excercising enough. Help!

Answer
Hi Heidi!  Your dog is definitely having an allergic reaction.  I would definitely think it may have been the shampoo the groomer had used.  I would take her to your veterinarian for treatment.  They will give her a steroid injection to reduce inflammation and stop the allergic reaction.  Since it's the weekend, and your veterinarian may not be in, give your dog some Benadryl.  The Benadryl alone may simply stop the allergic reaction.  The rule with Benadryl and dogs is 1mg per pound.  You can give your dog two dosages per day, 12 hours apart, until you can get her into your veterinarian.  When the itchiness stops and the hives go away, you can stop giving her the Benadryl.
I hope this helps!
