My english bulldog has a green film over her eye.  Is there drops or something I can do to clear this up. Please advise.

Thank you
Fran
Answer -
Hi Fran!  It sounds as though your dog has a bit of a conjunctivitis of the eye.  Antibiotic eye drops are used to cure this problem.  You will have to go to your veterinarian to obtain the eye drops, but they are faily inexpensive.  After a few days on these eye drops, your baby will have a clean bill of health!

Thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly.  Is there antibiotic eye drop I can get at the pharmacy without going to the vet.  If I go to the vet.  It will cost one hundred dollars just for the appointment plus cost of perscription.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello!  Unfortunately, there is no over-the-counter antibiotic eye drop that is safe for dogs.  The only way to obtain this is by your veterinarian.  Human products can actually cause blindness in animals.  You may want to try a different veterinarian.  The average veterinarian charges $25-$35 for the office visit and $15 for the medication. With this type of ailment, no tests are really needed...just the veterinarian looking at the eye will be self explainatory of the conjunctivitis.
Until you can take him to the veterinarian, you can use saline solution (NO VISINE or the like!) and wipe his eyes gently with a cool cloth, keeping them free of debris.  It is important to have this infection cleared up promptly, as a festering infection can lead to corneal ulcerations, cataract, or even blindness.
Please let me know how he does!
