new cat/ old cat

Question
less than a week ago, my husband and i saved a MALE kitten (no more than six mos. in age) from the streets. i've never had a non-neutered cat in my house so this is new to me except for what my friends have told me that the male cats are usualy the ones who are territorial and will urinate to mark territory, therefore i was prepared for the worse. we've made an appt. w/ our local vet to have him neutered next week.
we already own a beautiful pure-bred female persian who just turned one year. she is the one that we are having the problem with. since the new cat came, she has been the one urinating one nearly everything (i presume its to mark her territory). the male cat, however, has been calm.
my question (finally) is will this problem eventually go away once she is used to the new cat or will this be something that will consist of having to keep her apart from the other cat and have her spayed? i'd like to avoid having her spayed because we would like to breed her at a later time but i do not want to abandon the other cat.
any advice?
thank you,

Answer
I would keep them isolated for a few weeks, and YES I would have her spayed as well. Females can spray and mark their territory when they are in heat just as much as males spray to mark their territory. If you REALLY want to breed her, then you will have to keep her in a cage to prevent the marking. Usually at the end of October breeding season comes to a hault for cats due to the light cycle and you may be able to let her out of the cage then--many breeders will cage the toms and queens to prevent marking and unwanted pregnancies.

Otherwise I would recommend COMFORT ZONE/FELIWAY Diffusers around the house and you can add RESCUE REMEDY to the water dishes to help ease the stress of adjusting to the new addition.
